“God Given Right.” In my condemnation of gun ownership, I am angered and disgusted by gun enthusiasts claiming that guns are their “God Given Right.” Turning my anger and disgust into art, I created this painting I titled “God of Guns 1″

Window 7: This is a translation of a verse by the Arabic poet Al Mutanabbi, he is the equivalent of Shakespeare in the Arab world, in these lines he writes: “The wind blows in favor of our ship, we are the wind, we are the ship” I especially love this verse because it gives me back my power, it reminds me that I am in control of my life and my fate, I am not helpless, I am not a victim of random and uncontrollable circumstances.

Claudia – Women Reading 3: I’m working on a series of paintings titled “Women Reading.” Women in art have always been portrayed for their bodies. I want to change this and paint women’s minds. I put an ad on Craigslist asking women if I can take a photo of them reading, then paint from the photo. Many Women responded. Caludia, the subject of this painting was my third model. I paint women of all ages, color, ethnicity, and body type.

Fat Girl: I’m working on a collection of paintings titled Fat Girls. The idea is to show big sized women enjoying their bodies and living their best life. I delibrately use the word “Fat” to describe the subjects of my paintings as the only way (in my opinion) to remove the shame from this word is to use it without shame. In the painting the woman is liberated from social expectations of what a woman’s body should look like, she is happy, she is free.

SOLD – My favorite quote by American – Lebanese author Gibran Khalil Gibran: “A woman’s heart does not alter with time or seasons. A woman’s heart fights, it never dies. A woman’s heart is like the wilderness which man turns into a battle field, uprooting its trees, burning its grass, smearing its rocks with blood, instilling bones and skulls into its earth, and yet it remains calm, still, and tranquil, and in it Spring remain Spring, and Autumn remains Autumn until the end of time.”
